Weekly Update for November 23, 2015

News for the Week of November 23rd, 2015

Lynch school had a large representation at the WFEE Technology Night Thursday evening. Held at McCall Middle School, eight groups of Lynch educators and students presented on a host of technology-based activities that happen in our classrooms. Students presented on - fourth grade biography projects all done with Chromebooks, our student-created school newspaper "The Thunder Times," an online book club, a fifth grade water cycle project done using Scratch programming, our student council blog, and IPad apps used for students who are developing their communication skills. Just so impressed by the comfort level of our students not only with technology, but presenting to the community.

I had the pleasure to walk through and proudly witness all of our presenters with my daughter. I did have to compete with the rehearsal for "Bye, Bye Birdie" in the auditorium, which is one of my daughter's favorites. So, we traveled through the classrooms to see our Lynchies and then back to watch the rehearsal. A win-win!

Technology night thank you's to the following for presenting and leading:

Andrea Phelan - Assistant Principal (Student Council blog)
Karen Clements - Grade 5 teacher (Scratch programming)
Anne Bianchini - Kindergarten teacher (Ipad QR code reading app)
Jessica Callahan - Librarian (Thunder Times newspaper & Online Book Club)
Anna Nolty, Bethany Pine, Shannon Keaveney & Patrick Flaherty - Grade 4 teachers (Chromebooks)
Jen Flaherty - Lead Special Eductor (Ipad Popplet app)
Kristin Keegan - Speech and Language teacher (LAMP - Language Acquisition through Motor Planning application)

Safety procedures at Lynch - Each school in Winchester will practice certain safety procdedures each year: fire drills, evacuations, shelter-in-place, and lock downs are all specific practices based on the situation. Students at our All-School meeting on Friday went over a power point presentation that each elementary school presents. We discuss school and community safety. Last year (along with regular fire drills) we held an evacuation drill school-wide. This year, we are having classrooms do an evacuation practice on their own in the coming weeks.

In the spirit of Thanksgiving and being thankful, our All-School meeting Friday morning centered around this topic. We talked about taking a moment to reflect on all we have in and outside of school to be thankful for.
I am thankful that we have such a wonderful and supportive Lynch community of educators and families. The biggest "thanks" of all goes to our children. They are passionate, intelligent and on their way to greater accomplishments each day....

Have a positive and healthy Thanksgiving!
