Weekly Update for May 9th, 2016
In This Week's Memo
- Happy Mother's Day
-Kindergarten Orientation last Friday
- Math (and grade 5 Science) MCAS
As a child growing up in New Hampshire with two working parents, I still was able to come home everyday and have someone there to watch me. My mother worked hours at her job to make sure she could be the one home for me as much as possible. What I remembered most as I got older and responsibilities like homework became more a part of my life, she always gave me space and supported me. When I would finish my homework, she didn't question me as if I truly was done. There were many time when I just wanted to shut my books and head outside to ride my bike around the neighborhood. However, I never wanted to disappoint her and let her think I was done, when I actually wasn't. She trusted me, so I honored and respected that. She allowed me to explore, climb trees, play outside in the summer until the street lights came on and was always my biggest cheerleader. Tonight when I spoke to her to wish her a happy mother's day we were reminiscing about growing up. She stated how lucky she was to have such a great mother of her own to help guide her parenting style. How to be supportive, but not ever-present. How to love, sometimes in a "tough" way. How to let failure be a learning experience. All things that I have carried over to being a Dad with my children.
Thank you to my Mom and all Mom's reading this.
Happy Mother's Day!
We had our annual Kindergarten Orientation on Friday morning at Lynch. We welcomed all as the newest members of the Lynch family. Parents and future Lynch Kindergarten students met with me and our faculty for a portion of the morning. Students came bouncing in to school (some bouncier than others!) to visit our kindergarten classrooms, participate in classroom activities and meet our wonderful teachers. The highlight of the morning (other than seeing all of the new smiling faces) was having the children come back from the classrooms with such confidence and energy to then bring their parents through the hallways as if they had been at Lynch for years! We cannot wait to have the newest students here everyday come September!!
This week we will begin our last MCAS window of the school year. Grades 3-5 will take part in two sessions of Math assessments. The grade 5 students have also a Science session. As with any day of the week, we ask that students get a great night of sleep in, a decent breakfast before they come to school and words of encouragement from you as they prepare for the day.
FYI - Smiles, hugs and high-fives are also highly suggested for your children as they head to school in the morning.. :)
Have a great week!
