Weekly Update For October 23rd, 2017

Greetings!

Working in collaboration with Winchester High School we welcomed two student-guest speakers. Jared and Ella are currently taking the course - Speech and Debate. As Juniors they were asked to present in front of a public audience. We were more than happy to help Jared and Ella complete their assignment and offer them a chance to speak to all of our students during Friday morning's All-School Meeting.
While both were very nervous, they persevered (a term we focused on at our meeting) and did excellent! Congratulations to both!

On Wednesday evening (10/18) there was a monthly LPA meeting. Katie Malone - Winchester's Literacy Coordinator for the Winchester elementary schools presented briefly about Title I specifics and Lynch. The following is information from the Massachusetts Department of Education website which explains what Title I means:

"Title I, Part A (Title I) of the Elementary and Secondary Education Act (ESEA), as amended, provides financial assistance to districts and schools with high numbers or high percentages of children from low-income families to help ensure that all children meet challenging state academic standards. Federal funds are currently allocated through statutory formulas that are based primarily on census poverty estimates and the cost of education in each state. Title I, Part D is a program that provides funds to improve educational services for children and youth in local and state institutions for neglected or delinquent children. The Massachusetts Department of Elementary and Secondary Education (ESE) also provides Subgrants using state and federal funds to districts for the purpose of providing assistance for district and school improvement."

Reminder again that we will have a early release schedule on Wednesday, Thursday and Friday of the week. Dismissal is at 11:45am.

Have a great week!
