Weekly Update for October 17th, 2016

Greetings,

I hope this update finds you well and having enjoyed a great weekend. I am (as I am most of you are as well) excited to have a full week of school ahead of us.  We are looking forward to having Lynch celebrate a Walk (or roll) to school day on Wednesday. Thank you in advance to Lynch mom - Jody Alexander and our Green Team who will be welcoming students to school with some items (pencils and stickers) to recognize students who got some extra steps in on their way to school.

Please make sure that you have signed up for parent-teacher conferences next week (10/26-10/28) with your classroom teacher. These meetings are a nice way to have a personal conversation about your child and school, plus see the amount of work and effort they have put in so far.

On Wednesday evening there is a monthly LPA meeting. Katie Malone (former grade 1 teacher at Lynch, Vinson-Owen assistant principal) Literacy Coordinator for the Winchester elementary schools. Katie will be presenting briefly about Title I specifics and Lynch. The following is information from the Massachusetts Department of Education website which explains what Title I means:

"Title I, Part A (Title I) of the Elementary and Secondary Education Act (ESEA), as amended, provides financial assistance to districts and schools with high numbers or high percentages of children from low-income families to help ensure that all children meet challenging state academic standards. Federal funds are currently allocated through statutory formulas that are based primarily on census poverty estimates and the cost of education in each state. Title I, Part D is a program that provides funds to improve educational services for children and youth in local and state institutions for neglected or delinquent children. The Massachusetts Department of Elementary and Secondary Education (ESE) also provides Subgrants using state and federal funds to districts for the purpose of providing assistance for district and school improvement."
